The Open Society Institute (recognized as an undesirable organization on the territory of the Russian Federation) announced the termination of its activities in Tajikistan.
The decision to leave became known from a statement published on the foundation's website. The organization worked on the territory of the country for more than 25 years.
The International Network of Open Society Foundations sees its purpose as the promotion of democratic foundations of societies. In order to achieve this goal, the foundation encourages other organizations implementing initiatives to promote liberal values.
The Assistance Foundation in Tajikistan stops accepting applications for new grants, but promises to provide disbursements for existing projects that have already been accepted.
"The result of a major transformation, a transformation that began in 2021 to reprioritize its activities and restructure its more than 20 semi-autonomous national foundations around the world with a new regional approach," the statement said.
The foundation commented on the decision to leave, explaining that it was the result of a reassessment of priorities.
