I actually do remember the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was just something in the television news, like the Vietnam War and the Hippy Movement. Which is to say, it was an abstraction -- it did not actually touch anyone's life directly. It was something we read about, or watched on the tube, and were supposed to get excited around and fearful, even though it had nothing at all to do with us, and there was nothing at all any of us could do to change anything about it.
