You grew up in a country that acts like a gateway to europe, only to be european simply because it exists on the continental shelf. England is like a poor, disarmed, uneducated America compressed into a small island. It is why when things happen in England, like fashion trends for example, they come to the US as some sort of new fad.
My point is that I am American who lived in the UK for a few years and came back. The NHS is an absolute waste of everything unless you want free paracetamol or an x-ray for something. My wife needed oral surgery and it would have taken her TWO FUCKING YEARS on NHS to get it taken care of. You know what we did? We used our dirty American dollars to PAY OUT OF POCKET for her dental work and got it done in the same week. Fuck the NHS.
Fuck government everything, especially healthcare.
Did saying socialised medicine was evil make me sound like I'm a big fan or something? Now don't get me wrong, the US system is shitty and evil too, just in different ways and it's just as fucked by the government and the higher powers, but it's dumb to pretend your shit's perfect and the other shit's useless just because you like your particular turd better.
You could theoretically get the best of both worlds with a private system by having hospitals form a trading union to better control the market price, but again, supply and demand comes into play. There is no benefit to this theoretical union because people will willingly pay higher prices to survive, therefore there is no impetus on the private industry to drive down costs below the absolute maximum people can pay.

I must've mistaken or misread - I've also been watching too many vids lately that have incensed me, so I am probably not thinking straight.
