The military announced from the very beginning of the new elections they suspected fraud and might intervene. So, the military is well within its rights to assume command and announced they will only maintain power for one year until new elections can held securely. Given that, it could hardly be called a "coup". Also, the western media and governments calling for a reversal of command and sanctions if the military does relinquish power surely mean the Myanmar military is correct in their belief the former leader was a puppet and probably elected with their help.
