Suspended and shown as "Russian spy": In the case of the BVT chief inspector O. criticized now the ex-coordinator of the German secret service, Bernd Schmidbauer, Austria's BAT boss Gridling. "These events in Austria's BAT must be considered relentlessly", doubts the Europe-wide known intelligence expert and former Minister of State in the Chancellery Bernd Schmidbauer in an interview with AUSTRIA that BAT-Agent O. could be a "Russian agent". Reportedly, Peter Gridling, the director of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism (BVT), allegedly received an indication of a "friendly service" in 2017 that O. "spies for the Russians". The chief inspector was then immediately suspended, but then put back into service and transferred to a much poorer paid post at the security academy. Evidence of the suspicions was never presented in two years.
Criticism of Austria's BVT director "There must have been very different intentions behind it, the CIA certainly does not do that," says Bernd Schmidbauer in a telephone conversation with AUSTRIA on this case. And the longtime news service professional, who has saved many Europeans from hostage with his connections, criticizes very clearly the director of the BVT, director Peter Gridling: "The case O. would have had to be internally examined well beforehand destroy, without any examination. " And Schmidbauer says: "Against the one who bears the responsibility for this action, a disciplinary procedure would have already been initiated."
Rumors about "Bern Club" To rumors that Chief Inspector O.'s agent activity would have helped damage Austria's BAT in the so-called "Berner Club", a regular meeting of all intelligence chiefs, says Bernd Schmidbauer: "I know some members in this Bernese club. O. never played a role, that's completely wrong, Gridling used that against the 'right wing' Austrian government. " According to Bernd Schmidbauer, there were never "objective reasons" for any restrictions on cooperation with Austria.
Incidentally, Schmidbauer says only positive things about the long-time secret service employee "parked" in the security academy: "He was a great support, even for German services." From 1991, Bernd Schmidbauer was coordinator of the German secret services (Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Federal Intelligence Service and Military Shielding Service).
