A disaster prevention expert warns: Due to the tense energy supply situation, there will be widespread power outages in Germany in the coming months.

The energy supply situation remains tense. According to estimates by the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), there will be power outages in Germany in the coming months that will go beyond what has been experienced so far.

"We have to assume that there will be blackouts in the winter," BBK head Ralph Tiesler told "Welt am Sonntag." "By that I mean a regional and temporary interruption of the power supply".

Warning of "blackouts" in Germany.

However, the cause would then not only be energy shortages, but also the targeted, temporary shutdown of the grids by the operators in order to protect the grids and not endanger the overall supply.

"The risk of that increases starting in January and February, so we expect that from then on there will be interruptions in the power supply in places for a period of time," Tiesler said.

In this context, the BBK president criticized the fact that government agencies are not always adequately prepared for crisis situations such as power outages.

He said that some of the municipalities and authorities are in a "truly exemplary" position, with precise plans and a backup power supply provided by emergency generators on site.

"Others are in a much worse position, they are not adequately prepared. It's very different," the authority chief explained. (afp)

Doubt this will happen this year as they've been priming the pumps, getting people psychologically ready for this since the middle of the year. Will probably kick off in the beginning of next year.
