>“The beauty of YieldStar is that it pushes you to go places that you wouldn’t have gone if you weren’t using it,”

Something about tidepods popped into my mind when reading that.

>One of the algorithm’s developers told ProPublica that leasing agents had “too much empathy” compared to computer generated pricing.

any landlord that relies on that to dictate prices, is not suited to be a landlord. many things affect rent prices and above all you must take into account the community. why would i charge 700 a month if most people can only afford 450...

fuck jews

Typical liberal reporting. The only thing that affects prices when there isn't a command economy is supply and demand. Just because a computer program allows producers to more finely tune prices according to demand doesn't make the software responsible for price increases. Anything to avoid identifying high taxes and rent control as the drivers of high rental prices.

One of the reasons that isn’t true is because the software enables cartel behaviour by informing subscribers of what their ‘competitors’ are charging. Since significant proportions of any given market can often be controlled by a small number of organisations this system allows them to operate in concert to raise prices without having to directly collude.

Yes, that's how a market works. It's when pricing information is not available that markets don't work.

If they're charging a price people can't or won't pay, people won't rent.

That mechanism is compromised with necessities like food and shelter. Also worth taking note of the burgeoning homelessness problem.
