The last time the Chinese government used the phrase "Yanzhen Yidai", was back when Zhou Enlai warned the US not to cross the 38th Parallel prior to the Chinese intervention in the Korean War.
It's almost never used in a diplomatic context. The most accurate translation into English would be something along the lines of, “Fuck around and find out.”
The Chinese are no more bluffing over the Taiwan issue than the Russians were over Ukraine.
