The government brainwashing about nuclear war that was pumped through the media into our heads during the 1950s and 1960s has lost much of its effectiveness. I'm not advocating nuclear war -- but the fears about a nuclear attack were vastly hyped in order to prevent anyone even talking about a nuclear war in practical terms. I remember all the bullshit about a "nuclear winter" that would blot out the sun for years and kill all the plants. All the scares about radiation poisoning that effectively killed the nuclear power industry were also greatly exaggerated. The two atomic bombs dropped in Japan show how fast a place can recover from a nuclear blast. It's only a matter of years, not centuries.
