The Government will use its right under the Basic Law to declare a state of emergency as of midnight tonight, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced in a video posted on Facebook on Tuesday. "The government sworn in today started work immediately. Not a minute was wasted because there is a war going on in our neighbourhood. A war that no one can see the end of," said the Prime Minister. Mr Orbán stressed that this war poses a constant threat to Hungary, puts our physical security at risk, and endangers the energy supply and financial security of the economy and of families. "We can see that the war and the sanctions imposed by Brussels have led to huge economic upheaval and drastic price rises. The world is on the brink of an economic crisis. Hungary must stay out of this war and protect the financial security of families", the Prime Minister said. According to Mr Orbán, this requires room for manoeuvre and the immediate ability to act, and the Government will therefore use its right under the Basic Law to declare a state of emergency from midnight tonight. As in the case of the state of emergency declared during the fight against the epidemic, this will enable the government to react immediately and protect Hungary and Hungarian families by all possible means.
