Late in the afternoon on Sunday, part of the volcanic cone gave way, causing a large amount of lava to flow out through the same channel. This fall was foreseeable because it is built of material that does not consolidate, and makes one of the fears expressed by all scientists come true. This Monday marks 16 days since the beginning of the eruption at the Cumbre Vieja volcano, on the island La Palma.
