Fact is, hunting is a very physical activity. Especially if the game is large. Carrying hundreds of pounds of meat back to camp, after walking, running, and hunting is very physically demanding. Not to mention, if you take too long you can attract large predators.
Not only are women in general not up to it, it becomes near impossible with children. Which means if you want big game meat, it's almost always going to come from men, unless there are no men available. Because any other division of labor is retarded and physically disadvantageous to women.
