I had a conversation not long ago about reparations. I stated that I would not support the idea unless it included everyone responsible for the slave trade. That point was initially well received, but when I made the point that English, Dutch, French, etc. slave traders weren't the ones going deep into the African jungle to capture slaves I was told I was being unrealistic.
My counter to that argument was that holding people who had no responsibility for the slave trade accountable for it was even less realistic.
