Basically, the guy who takes the placebo (a nothing or barely anything pill) is so convinced it's going to do good to him, that, it does indeed good to him. In fact he does good to himself, on his own, call it the "electro chemical thinking machines inner working magic mystery" if you will

It also works with real pills btw, there's something in the pill and the patient trusts so much the guy giving it to him that it multiplies the effects. A religious for example, typically. Think of africans and their witch doctors giving them white medicine they got from white people; It's the ultimate combo, white medicine combined to african tradi magic... I let you imagine resulting firework in their heads

And it can also go the other way around. Africans receiving pills from whites they don't trust. The pills should work but don't work as much as expected...
