It's all by design. They're trying to remove as many living humans from the work force as possible. Over working them is one way. Machines don't bitch about working conditions or long hours. They don't call in sick of ask for a raise. They require no medical benefits or sick pay. Most of all, they will never join a labor union. I used to be a Supervisor at a foundry. It was one of the largest employers and paid good wages for this area. They voted in a union and guess what happend? They automated as many production jobs as possible. Most of the hourly (union) jobs were eliminated. The foundry is still turning out the same products but the parking lot is about one fourth the size it was when I worked there.
Startups, which are a young mans game, have always been long hours with the thought the stock options will make you rich.
Once you get past a certain age, and have a family, it's no Bueno.
I just got screwed. I was exempt so it was long hours with shit pay. I get it with family though.
I did 100 hour weeks when young. Not anymore. Screw that.
Same. I made my money, but once my kids were born, I decided they needed a father more than a Bentely.
Now that my kids are grown, I'm too fkn tired to work that many hours, and I am happy with what I have.
Of course I'd love more money, but not at the expense of free time and travel.
Normally I’d say fuck that. But with Trump removing income tax on overtime, keep the 40 and I’ll take my 32 tax free hours in the bank.
Also fuck chinks.
These are usually salaried jobs. You don’t get paid by the hour. They’ll tell you regular working hours are 9–5 or 9–6 “…but we sometimes require extra hours.”
Then they pressure you into working long hours regularly until you have no life outside of their crappy office—which you must commute to every day to show their ownership of you.
Sounds lovely at moment in fight club when he talks about an ar-10
No tax on overtime has strings attached BTW. It's not free and clear. My brother was telling me about it because he tends to work a shitload of OT.
More jewery. Fuck everything.
I'd rather quit my job and become a full time anti government militant than work that schedule. That's insane to do day in, day out.
I've worked numerous 775s, as well as plenty of 776s and even 777s. The money is nice, but it gets old fast.
It makes sense for some people some times but basically everyone in "Tech" (if they are not hourly) are exempt from overtime (which is a fucking crime and should be fixed).
I am not going to work 6 back to back 12's just so some fuck can buy another beach house and another sports car while I get fucked on wages.
True. Salary should be entitled to comp time if not overtime.
My job is technically salary, but I do get x1.5 for extra hours. Sometimes my employer cuts hours from the schedule for various reasons and that time missed is expected to be made up with what would otherwise be overtime.
I have only ever had one job that gave me comp and there was a cap on it.
When you work in a field with on-call that could go from a "oh, something looks slightly broken" to "oh fuck, everything is down" in five minutes then you now have a 40 hour week turn into a 100 hour week in the blink of a eye. You will get ALL of your comp time hit in that single week (they tend to cap it at 40).
Pay me or give my time back. I am so fucking tired of that shit.
