Yeah, I had a boss try to tell me "I couldn't leave" for a trip I had planned and granted time off for nearly a year in advance. My response was "I'm not asking you, I am telling you that I am going".
They backed down. I worked there for a little while longer and was thrilled the day I put in my notice.
