I won't go back to an office unless it's in my home.
With limited exceptions, the work I do could always be done remotely. What is the fucking point of wasting the time, gas, money, etc on a commute when my commute could be the 5 minutes it takes from making my morning tea/coffee to my desk and first meeting of the day.
If I have a choice I will never go back to in-office work. Most of my work week was wasted by people wanting to hang out in my office and talk about irrelevant shit. I can get a whole week's worth of work done in a day or two if I am remote. If I am in office, most of that time is wasted by "forced socializing" by people that have no life outside of the office and no friends/hobbies/etc.
Yep. Except, I have the added bonus of a group that loves chatting on Teams doing what you just described virtually.
At least if its on teams/slack/whatever I can mostly just ignore it or respond when I am done working on something. When someone just walks into my office and expects me to spend the next 2+ hours "just chatting" I get really pissed off.
A few years ago I started leaving my office light off and locking my office door so people would leave me alone so I could get work done. That did not stop the useless manager from messaging me and asking to drop by (probably to make sure I was actually in my office) then wasting at least 2+ hours of my time to justify their useless fucking position. I am a bit bitter about this... for reasons.
