"The Merchant" is a must have!
For the top decorative piece I don't think it needs to be nearly that thick. If that is the case then you can get a small desktop cnc router that will punch those babies out real quick for you. You can start off with a cheepie that will last for a couple hundred (hopefully) then take the money and reinvest in a higher quality one.

Yeah I was debating that myself. I was using fence pickets because it's what I had on hand. Besides, cedar actually looks good when cleaned up. I think they're sitting somewhere around a quarter inch right now. I wasn't sure how thin the planer would go. I suppose I could test some smaller pieces to see how thin the planer will get. It's a cheap harbor freight planer. I know nothing about CNC or 3d printing but they are both on my need to learn list. Any suggestions about a cheap CNC unit?
just saw a couple on a goog search, I don't have experience with them. If you're looking at a 3D printer as well I would consider an all in one. Not cheap, but something like the will do everything you need for years to come with no need to replace anytime soon. 3K on sale right now.
Or, the is WAY cheaper and will do most of the same stuff but on a smaller scale and not as fast. Still a great choice. This one is a third the price.
Worth looking into.
Those fence pieces are incredibly useful. I did my bathrooms in them to give the place a rustic look, and planed some down for the kitchen.
The hard part will be for me to think of designs that aren't more on the Gothic end. Any ideas?
Soyjak themed box sized specifically to hold Nintendo DS cartridges. I'm not even joking, I think that would sell pretty well.
Celtic designs are classic.
You could cut flower designs, maybe? I bet that could sell well. I hope it works out, that's cool!
