I read that Tung oil was a good finisher, but I'm looking for a good finish if not that one, and the best process to treat said wood. This is African Ipe, if that matters.

And no, I'm not done sanding.

Edit: I want to put a design on this too, I was thinking I would use the woodburner.

How durable does it have to be? Look up “film finishes.”

Wipe on polyurethane? It is thinned down so it will not build up enough to chip off.

Edit; come to think of it any thinned down barrier coat would be better than an oil which will dissipate. high-quality shellac thinned with alcohol or nitrocellulose lacquer thinned with lacquer thinner. You could even play around with clear nail polish that I think is thinned with acetone.
