First pictures I’ve taken of the progress… oops.

Mostly mahogany, oak and poplar on the keel, birch ply for the side planks, oak seam battens, (gunwales and inwales once I get to the upper planks.)

So cool, thanks for sharing.

Is it seaworthy? I would have gone with a Viking design.

I can always add a sweet figurehead, which I intend to do. As for the seaworthiness, perhaps. Though, I do not think I’ll be putting my infant daughter at the will of the tides.

I’m off to a good start at least. Hopefully I keep on the path.

I would... test it for bouncy before putting her in there and pushing it off.

I didn’t use any wood from the old rubber tree! Buoyancy seems a far more likely property.

Very nice, you have a lucky daughter. Just remember safety is paramount with these things, no screws poking through, splinters, or risk of tipping. good luck

All corners rounded, final sanding to 800 grit, and a beeswax finish.

Sounds like you're a pro at this haha

Pro?! By no means, but I’ll figure it out, as did my father, and his father before him… etcetera, etcetera…

Congrats on the baby girl! Very unique idea for a crib. I get the feeling she is going to be a big daddy's girl as she grows up. Maybe consider getting a puppy when she's born, that pup will be her guardian for life!

I’ve thought about it. One with a 16 year lifespan. Bring my daughter back in close before she becomes a woman.

This is amazing!! What a lucky girl. I often look back at the things my father did for me that required effort and time. It means so much to a daughter. What a lovely way to enter the world, from mom's womb to the beautiful handmade cradle your father made for you!

Oh, her mother has been quite busy on the crochet hook. My wife will teach her to be a proper lady, and I’ll teach her how to work an excavator. Can’t wait to meet my baby.
