there's not much online describing them since they're such old tech, but there's still one company making them in Massachusetts, Tremont Nail. i've ordered some galvanized cut nails, they hold solid. i've also got an older out building that has these on an attic door. they’ve rusted in and have become one with the wood. i made the mistake of trying to remove one and accomplished nothing.
Now i understand why the main way to remove these nails from old rotting furnature was to toss them into a campfire and collect then nails after it has burned down to ashes.
