Haven't tried my hand at it yet, but i dare say it seems a rewarding project.

I love hurdy gurdys! The sound, the buzzing bridge, the fact that it's the only keyed instrument you can bend notes on (Unless there's an even more obscure instrument out there)

Some awesome stuff can be played on a Hurdy Gurdy. I don't think I could ever build one though. I know they were building them in the middle ages with simple hand tools, but there's a reason it costs 2 grand to buy one today. Workmanship.

But who knows, maybe in 5 years I'll take on the task. The idea of needing to ship an instrument to it's maker to get repairs is not something I'm into, and building the thing myself means I know how to fix it.

Decisions.

for sure, the body itself doesn't seem daunting, but the mechanics of it... i prefer to take on projects if i can generally sense how long they will take. i'd have to build this one its own room.

Yeah I haven't looked through the plans, but it seems that by the time you figure out the best way to build things, construct jigs, get the right tools, you'll be kitted out to start manufacturing en-mas lol

the jigs are pretty straight forward. i guess i'll never know if i don't give it a try. we'll see.
