Finished my shelf, turned out pretty good looking. I was going to paint and finish it properly, but my wife likes the way it looks even though there's two different types of wood.

Only made a couple mistakes, the frame is 2 inches short but I didn't notice until I was laying out the dado cuts. Oops. The shelf supports don't exactly match up in width to the frame so there's a sixteenth or so of difference.

Overall it went together well considering I don't have space for the tools that would make it easier. A band, scroll or table saw would have made it massively easier to make. A belt sander would be better than filing for fine tuning the dado fit.

The frame is 34 inches, should be 36 inches, with a 6 inch inner space (despite the picture making it seem otherwise, I glued the top and bottom shelves on first to lock that in). The shelf are 12 inches by 5, with the camera left overhang of 1 3/8 inches. The shelf support beams are a little less than 5 inches long. They were intended to be 5.25 with the .25 being in the dado, but my mini circular saw doesn't make the straightest cuts. Cheap piece of chinesium...so used a cheap chinesium miter-box and saw from Ace to square everything up.

Spent about 36 hours, a lot of that filing.
