So far I feel the two genders are handled well. The women are shown as capable and able to lead, but it isn't done by making the men look stupid.
The women are always portrayed as feminine and if one isn't such as Min, it is describe as highly unusual, I like that. I have read that some dislike the books because of this and how the women are often easy to swoon over the male characters. I see that side as well.

I do get the female empowerment though. I can see it, but it isn't to the point that it is bothering me. I'll have to wait and see if it becomes annoying to where I stop with the series. Thanks for the spoiler warning, I'm going to leave that unread for now.

Like I said, it just got to the point where I gave up. I couldn't handle it anymore. It just kept building and building and finally I just put the book down and never picked it back up. Doesn't help that I remember reading somewhere that Robert Jordan thought that this is exactly how male/female dynamics should go, with the woman being dominant, controlling harridans and men subservient to them.
