Lithium is a group 1 element that will produce hydrogen gas and Lithium Hydroxide (2 Li(s) + 2 H2O -> 2 LiOH (aq) + H2(g)). The hydrogen gas is what presents the fire risk. Interestingly, LiOH can be used to make a carbon dioxide scrubber.
