If they are not protected by the FDIC, they are not a bank They offer no other services other than Escrow services. So, Legally they can not hold onto the funds past the contract term. People leaving money in the escrow account were lazy and Paypal was illegally using that as Interest funds.

I would guess there is some way to block PayPal by contacting your bank. But that still leaves them your account which they will use to pretend they have customers.

I had to remove EVERY SINGLE vendor I had ever paid from some stupid list that evidently gave them the ability to automatically charge me (thank God I keep track of shit) just so I could remove my bank account

What is a decent alternative? My bf and I use it as an easy way to split bills, rather than doing a joint bank account (we try to keep our finances as separate as possible). I also do audiobook work and people pay me through it. Is there a decent alternative?

Venmo for bill splitting, that's what I use with my wife... But it's owned by PayPal also, but at least you'll close PayPal and venmo is a technically separate company
