I went to a garage sale recently and found a bunch of old Nat Geo magazines from the '60s and '70s. Lots of articles about tribes in Africa, with pictures of men with bones through their faces, and women with plates in their lips and their bare breasts sagging, living in mud huts. But that was 50 to 60 years ago. I'm sure they've advanced by now.
