No one is surprised. Hell the movie drumline was basically black version of bandcamp. It was all yeah this is my rythm and stupid my dad was a jazz drummer so I have the gift, just bullshit feel good to be black movie with a bunch of moments here and there with a token white dude in it. Yeah he's really into the culture but he's got nothing past that which is kind of lame since if he was a great actor he wouldn't be in only black films but how about films where it's not based on race but talent and he never has gotten to that point as far as I know. I only saw the movie since if was 50 tape since no one had bought it and it sat for months in the rack of used movies and it was one I had not seen. So it was a bunch of black guys and one white guy trying to be black.

When I saw the linked article I recognized the name but couldn't remember from where, so I Drumline is the first movie listed in the "Known For" section and that was 18 years ago. (I never saw it.)
