They forget. They don't have the bodies of teenagers.
We really need to re-think how to manage getting old. My theory is that young people should be fit but not waste their youth in the gymn. Instead, gymn should be something you increasingly take on as you get older and old people should be absolutely ripped and muscle bound:

Search 80 year old body builders on youtube. Most of them could stop eating all those carbs and really lean up, but, getting fat and weak as humans age is fucking stupid.
Extensive body / strength training will reverse and stop most of the issues around bone loss in particular.
I think strength training is important for all ages, but becomes more important the older you get
