Swamps are worse than here. Alaska is worse than here. Our deer flies are about the size of big houseflies, buzz around your head in circles, they have quite a bite. The moose flies are big, maybe 1" to 1.25" long, less aggressive than deer flies but very stealthy. They have a similar bite but much less plentiful compared to mosqitoes, black flies and deer flies.
