Vampires are often depicted as being weak to fire in various forms of media and folklore. I'm sure it's just a cohencidence though.

You can indeed nearly sterilize metal and surfaces with fire. The reason vampires fear fire is because they take damage and regenerate from that damage, but they can't if they're a pile of ash
