Well they got the ring back to the owner, wouldn't have happened the current legal system or not after wasting to many hours to count. Now they did it like it would have been done almost a hundred years ago. They used something the dummy would understand and it worked. I also stole as a child and my father had the judge let him punish me instead of Juvinal Hall which would have made me worse. His was like a beating, it was to take a small unmuscled boy and have him split and stack wood on a hot summer all day every day. That was and I know the best punishment, the judge was smart to allow that since he knew our family. I had trouble even lifting the splitting maul the first time and learned lessons on paying attention when I hit the log and the maul broke, how my own body and leverage could work together to get more done "thought I was smart but had no common sense or attention span". So it's like if you robbed someone at gunpoint getting lashes by a whip would certainly teach faster than sitting in a cell learning from other criminals how to rob better next time.
