National votes are an absolute waste of time because to your point everything's pre-ordained. But I think on a local level they do matter. Like your town or city.

Congress only "cares" about the little people when they need their votes. And in many districts, the votes are created by the machines before the voters step into the booths. So the politicians truly don't care about us.
