They walk around with a troublesome, lingering thought that they must push to the back of their mind, for confronting it would mean completely shattering the lens with which they view the world. The vast majority will not wake up, for that would mean that they willing poisoned themselves and their children, while ostracizing and mocking the only people who tried to warn them. That is too harsh of a reality for most to bare.
Maybe not admit it to others. But the state say they admit it to themselves.
