You can use that analogy for everything. Practically nothing is done for its stated purpose. Instead, they use symbolism to infer things that aren't true. People are intellectually lazy, so they accept what they hear at face value. You are correct, if they were actually concerned about global climate change, almost none of this nonsense would be executed. Instead, they would do as you suggested. I'll ask a rhetorical question: what/who are they trying to save the planet for? It's certainly not us. They want us dead.
