Normal people don't put their pets above the comfort of other people

Exactly, but not everyone is normal, and you can't tell just by looking at them. Equally, the first warning sign of a psychopathic killer is harming animals

This area had a local farmer who kept putting down illegal poison too close to the village and a few cats died as a result, then his farm burnt down. The police investigated and it seems everyone in the village was washing their hair that night? Before my time, but I've heard of similar cases since.

We don't have the same laws in the UK, but most people don't keep there cats indoors 24/7 like the Americans do, we think that's seriously weird. I'd agree that >3 cats is a bad idea, purely as cats like their own territory. My wife once fostered up to 6 in this house, but it's quite big and they were outside most of the time.

Sounds like the farmer was irresponsible. Only time I have put out poison was for a specific target and I dispose of the stuff before I leave. Putting out stuff like that is a way to bring attention to yourself. I only trap in private areas and quietly and discreetly dispose of my capture. I did piss off a neighbor in the country when I would shoot his cats but he also was way over the limit. Then too, it baffled me as to why his cats would leave his property, cross the road, walk up the hill and hang out on our family property when there was nothing there for them.

One I shot at night when I mistook it for a coon. Get those things comfortable around your place and you can spend thousands repairing the damage. We eventually got a decent dog that chased off all the wild animals as well as the cats which really made things more peaceful.

As for the cats, the neighbor couldn't legit complain and he ended with just the ones that stayed home.
