I disagree. The wise know that 2+2=4, and they know it. They don't have doubts. The truly wise think in terms that are exacting and precise so they don't have to second guess themselves. Want to do that with political subjects? Economics is your friend, and specifically micro-economics because it's the more exacting branch.
Who do you think can better determine what a municiple policy in place like California will ultimately result in. A. A sociologist, or B. An economist. B, and he'll know he's right too. But people will shun him because his views are unpleasant to those who are dead set on their narrative. That's why it's called the dismal science. It will tell you that X,Y,or Z attempt at helping the poor will only make things worse. And no happy go lucky champion of the poor wants to hear that they have to think before they spend other people's money or jail/fine people they don't like.
