Just spent some time over at Voat. It really has that "Reddit" like feel right before it went down the shitter 3+ years ago.

Circle jerk replies. Echo chamber.

Poal has that small community feel that voat (whoaVerse) did at that time.

Anyone remember digg back in their hey day?

I 'member digg but I don't think I ever commented, just used the RSS

They way Voat's users knee-jerkingly defend the admin who hates/abuses them, is in the same psychological category as stockholm syndrome. And that's right up there with how Reddit users feel loyal and defend spez. It's worse, however, because Reddit openly says they have "reddiquette" and welcome censorship, delete """hate speech""". Voat supposedly is against all that but it's been perverted. Those who stick around there and can't see it have committed the same error as the reddit they hate.

3 years ago was when reddit started openly banning subs. r/niggers and r/fatpeoplehate

I wasn't part of either of these groups, but I knew what that meant. Once one thing is too offensive were does it stop?

That's when I started looking for other alternatives. There were a few, but Voat really struck me as something fun.

Then the outages started happening. And the BS from Putt. That's when I heard of Poal, and saw PMYB2 was admin. I lurked for a bit, but then another outage happened. That's when I decided this was going to be my new home.

I still go back and visit my old stomping grounds. I even go to reddit for curtain topics. Mainly gaming. I only lurk there now though. I'm sure I'll get there for Voat soon here too.

I don't disagree with you, but I would add this - taking down a sub in the name of "anti hate" is one thing, but to allow hate against white people, men, straights, etc. is another. If you are going to take down /r/niggers, then you have to go after about 3-5 other major subs.

It was not censorship that drove me away, it was blatant bias.

No doubt, I'm a lurker now though

I'm OTL on what the Voat admins did, could you fill me in?

He out right said he doesn't like what voat has become.

Later mentioned he was just burnt out.

There was a 3 day outage. And he comes back with a bs excuse. Akto (or however you spell his name) was actual the one to fix it, even though he stepped down as admin awhile ago.

Tldr; Putt doesn't care about voat anymore.

digg was before my time. When digg was a thing I was probably on somethingawful

Yeah I had heard of digg at the time. Even went there off and on. But I was mostly on Fark.

I did visit somethingawful a few times. My brother was more into that than I was.

I remember being on Voat back like 3 years ago and talking about how I was gonna voat for Trump and everyone down voted me. It was awesome. Fuck the echo chamber

Digg feels like forever ago. Kinda weird to think about.
