It started because pretty early on, back when hotwheels was in charge, a bunch of skids kept ddosing it to advertise their own ddos for hire service. HW was actually trying to improve code, things were moving very fast, so I guess he figured he'd just pay CF to make the problem go away as a temporary stopgap measure. Unfortunately the site then passed on to Jim and he never cared to change it.
