I can't understand installing Linux on these new systems... Back in the day before Windows 10 it was easy-sleazy but now... Fuck especially with this Dell laptop, feels like it's almost impossible.
I need to spend a day and install dual-boot linux and root my s8 but these days I just can't be fucked. Gives me a literal headache every time I attempt.
Was so easy in my youth -_-
Da fuck you talking about? Installing Linux on a dell brand new Dell laptop is painless. I am writing this on a 4mo old Dell running Linux. When you say
Fuck especially with this Dell laptop, feels like it's almost impossible.
it makes me think you have never even tried this.
You know Dell officially supports Unbuntu and you can get Dell laptops pre-installed with Unbuntu?
I had no idea man. I think I have issues with UEFI...
I had a 3 year old desktop and this is a brand new(4-5 months) dell... I wasn't able to install anything other than Kali live. Which really isn't installing. Maybe I am just being lazy.
I know that choosing a Linux distro can be a very personal choice, but try Ubuntu. Dell works directly with Ubuntu to make sure that the distro contains all the HW drivers for Dell laptops.
I'm running Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS on a brand new Dell Inspiron and it flawless. I had to do NOTHING to except running the Ubuntu installer. Post install the only thing I found that did not work was MP4 video play back and that is because the codex is proprietary and so Ubuntu cannot ship the codec... I think all I had to do was to install the Ubuntu extras package.
