When you steal from a supermarket, the costs are passed down to the consumer anyway. You're only stealing from yourself in the end.
That said, cashiers get paid, what, 20/hr, 6 mins to scan my shopping (100 bucks worth), so it's a 2% extra cost assuming no shrinkage. That's much less than the 10% figure quoted for shrinkage sue to self checkout, and someone else is scanning my shit.
