I’m not sure if you know how most of these platforms work. Most of them would like to turn a profit. I’ve been told by different people from day 1 if you have real free speech it’ll never be financially successful, so I just accept that it won’t be. So I’m not doing this for money so the only other reason for me to do this would be that I actually believe in free speech. That being said why would I get all ban happy?

There have been a couple of bans. However I made it a point to explore every possible option before exercising that tool. Far fewer than what I’ve seen claimed but I won’t lie it has happened. I’ve been public about it when it has and told people that if I’m wrong I’ll reverse it.

I absolutely understand internet commerce. This is what led me down the path to where I'm at now. That guy who posts as PuttItOut suddenly, out of the blue, has an "angel investor" who has to remain anonymous, come in and save Voat. All the while talking about non-ad based revenue streams and how because of Voats users, ads are not a viable option.

Well I’m glad you understand and the Financials here are pretty transparent I don’t see a reason to keep them a secret. Server cost is 40 a month, the other services I honestly don’t know how much they are actually costing me as they are self hosted on my hardware.
The amount of time I’ve put into running this place is a lot I’ve not even kept track.
If they want to come here I won’t do anything to stop it that would fly in the face of my ideals. I’ve spoken with their mods when all the drama happened and they seem like okay guys to me. I’m not even sure why voat would want to get rid of them honestly it doesn’t make sense.

This is the problem. Freedom of speech shouldn't be at the whim of how you happen to feel that day. It must be a constant. That constant will be challenged by people that wish to do you harm and by people that just can't resist fucking with shit.You have to be immune to all that. Grow thicker skin. Trust that good will triumph over evil if given the chance.
If you show you are dedicated to free speech and the good and bad that comes with it, the right people will come here and make it a home. Otherwise it will just end up being an echochamber safe space.
