I love a good story, being taken to a place where reality fades away and wonder and excitement are the norm. As I wandered the isles and looked at the interesting titles and scoffed at the blatant PC push infesting new titles I came to the realization that my entire reading life was solely derived from my desire to escape from reality instead of facing it. I am still processing this experience and trying to sort it out. I have escaped from reality for far too long.

Return to the classics. Today's writing is all about marketing to the masses.

Maybe a generous five years ago, best selling fiction was about marketing to the masses. Now it's mostly woke schlock.

Damn I was just about to tell you that the new red rising sequel is about to drop.

I was hammered most the time while listening to those, I would need to re listen or read them at this point. Great books and an interesting future, I just need to focus on my own reality for now.

No worries man I'm glad you're doing better

The more I write, the less I read.

Most text these days is just entertainment, and when it comes to that, why would I pay someone for several hundred pages of what they think is entertaining, when I can make custom-tuned, bespoke entertainment in my own home using nothing more than a pair of hands and a keyboard.

I'm going to echo the sentiments of some of the other people here and say read the classics; specifically, read philosophy.

god I hate the word bespoke

Funny, I didn't really care for reading until I discovered books that gave me a better understanding of reality

Give the authors from Baen Books a try, they don't push woke nonsense that's infected most of publishing. Other than that, you can't go wrong with the classics.

Hobbies change.

Find something else you enjoy. You still had a good time with your old hobbie of books, so keep them, and move on.

Speaking for myself.

I used to like marvel comics in the 90's. They started to get shit in post 2000 but I still put up with it. Then all the SJW bulshit was the straw that broke the camels back.

I still have my 90's comic collection. But I have moved on to other hobbies that I enjoy.

What I have learnt from it, is that it wasn't just the medium of comics that I enjoyed - but the attitudes and ideas that were present in the medium.

Maybe you are finding the ideas and attitudes that you used to like in books.. in the real world instead now?

Have you thought about reading ancient text? Plato/Aristotle/Augustine....just those three names can keep you busy for a year or more.

So why aren't you reading my book?

I'm publishing it Chapter by Chapter, right here on Poal.

You don't even have to leave your house.

The stuff in barnes & noble is too low level for an adult to really learn anything from it. It's highly, highly curated by leftists, which makes for a really boring selection. Try your local used bookstores and be pleasantly surprised. But bear in mind that used bookstores can also be curated. I had a nasty surprise when I found out one of my local used bookstores was a communist front.
