(not a volcanologist or rock fag) Mafic and Felsic rocks are called rocks...so while you can melt granite and produce a melted pool of some sort of silica based liquid rock, it is simply a transformed rock.
I'm not aware of any rocks having some sort of immutable status.
All that said however, it is an interesting discussion. Upvotes pending.
