I grew up in the South(Arkansa/La.) We got our 1st air conditioner when I was 14. It was wonderful! My point is that until then we got by just fine. You’ll be fine,too.
It reminds me of my childhood. I did not have AC until age 10. Box fans and cool wash rags were what we used to cool down.
NH, was in the upper 80's and 90's and humid as fuck when growing up during the summer. We could only afford a single fan for the entire house and school had no fans or AC and huge glass windows in every classroom. I got my first AC at 35 and it was the biggest luxery item I had ever bought. Hell I didn't own a car till 32 so I've been poor like you also in my life. Hell my father wouldn't get foodstamps even though we'd more than qualify since it was a shameful thing for a working white family to do asking the town for charity.
