Well we made downvotes public for level 6 and above, so we clearly think knowing who downvotes what is a good thing, we want to encourage people not to use the downvote button as an I disagree button or a fuck you button.

Putt's reason to see who downvoted his builders post was personal and not administrative. There are user levels here, once reached, that enable people to see voting activity. It was devised to counteract gooning.

Well, for one thing, everyone level 6+ (yellow) can see who downvoted each submission. Submission upvotes are visible but anonymized (only date/time visible).

Comments have neither visible publicly, although I'd like to see the downvotes public too.

This takes away some of the concern about admins in particular viewing the DVs, right? What would be the nefarious purpose to view the UVs?

Well Poal definitely has a big difference from voat in that regular users (not just admins) can view downvotes (but not upvotes) on submissions after their accounts hit level 6, I'm unaware of any way to do it for comments. For the record it took only 3 days for me to hit level six, and i doubt most users would take more than a week of moderately active posting to do the same.

I'm not really sure if poals system is better or worse than voats.

I made the post on one of putt's stickies complaining about this direct issue. Here downvotes are meant for spam purposes, not disagreement, level 6 is easily attainable (i'm almost there and i've been here for less than 3 days) and if EVERYONE gets to see it then that allows us to know when someone is being a faggot and downvoting for disagreement rather than to call out spam.

This system, I'm okay with it.
