I think you need to at least explain your comment and let the users of Poal understand when and under what circumstances you will transfer the ownership of an account.

For those of you who don't know what I am talking about:

In requested that the gabara account be transferred to him. I laughed when I saw the post by Dizzbit because my initial reaction was "Yeah we would never do that. That is a horrible idea."

Well imaging my surprise when I see this comment from PMYB2:

Well considering the issues that I've had with that account and the fact that I've handed it too someone before. If you really want it, I'd need you to come on mumble and have a conversation with me before I considered handing it out to someone.

The important bit being:

I've handed it too someone before.

why would you ever hand one persons account to another person for any reason? Can you please explain your thinking and logic on this one? Why would this ever be a good idea? I'm a big fan of transparency... it keeps us all honest. Even if you did this with the best intentions it seems to go against the concept of transparency. How would users know that suddenly someone different is posting under an established account? Even if unintentional, how would this do anything except confuse, deceive and mislead the users of Poal?

Thanks for the response and transparency PMYB2! This is why I am here and not somewhere else.

Just make sure I understand properly... Someone from Voat that was not Gabara came here in the very beginning and registered a bunch of user account that were well established on Voat but not here. Then the real Gabara from Voat showed up and asked for the Poal Gabara account be transferred? He (she? I don't know who the fuck gabara is IRL) then proved their identity, probably by posting on Voat under that account, and you then transfered the account?

In addition to proving the identity on voat I asked that it be discussed with me on a server that I control the hardware and software so that I can be sure no Tom foolery is happening.

Thanks again for the response. This clarification sets me at ease. It seems like you were trying to reduce deception and misleading content. I think your intentions were good but I still think this is a really bad idea... Password recovery is one thing, but that is not what this really is...

I think allowing someone to claim an account because they have the same username on a different site is a bad precedent to set.

I know we have close ties to Voat but this seems like a slippery slope.

I suppose you are correct I should have an official policy on this, us admins have discussed it, I’ll get on it later today
