Extrapolation:

SNAP (food stamps) runs out of money in February. ~30 million people on food stamps. These people are going to go hungry. They will demand action taken. These are the constituents of the Democrats. Pelosi and company forced to accept deal.

Medicare and Medicaid are paid for through the fiscal year. This covers the Republican base.

As long as the business leaders in both parties do not call for action over the TSA, Republicans win this round. It is going to take a while to finish the endgame.

35 People control the shutdown process. Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and 33 other Senators. Veto power plus control off Senate plus override veto.

In the deep south, some of the people on Medicaid are hard conservatives. Granted across the USA, the vast amount of people on Medicaid are not Republicans.

True.

I live in a north eastern metropolitan area and work in healthcare. It's disgusting the people we enable with this program.

I have seen somebody on medicaid get staples in their stomach to reduce body fat through a reduction in eating. After the surgery they went to IHOP and busted the staples.

The amount of obese people on Medicaid is ridiculous. When your PDX is a symptom of obesity, yet you have to treat the symptom, not the cause....

Hard conservatives or otherwise, the government should not be providing healthcare.

On what should the federal government spend money?

Ideally, nothing.

In the real world: defence.
