Voat's censorship via popularity does just what you're talking about.

No it doesn't which is why I clarified.

If you have an unpopular opinion, yes you can be brigaded and downvoated until you can't post or comment much, true. But admins are not banning subs they don't like and libs are free to create whatever the fuck subverse they want and post whatever they want in it besides illegal stuff, without fear of being banned.

There is a huge difference between that and Reddit shadowbans, Youtube just plain taking down channels and Twitter suspending accounts.

Someone being downvoated to hell is more often than not earned. I've seen people get hammered for saying something unpopular, but not so much if they are saying it in a level headed, let's discuss, kind of way. But if someone goes on Voat and says alt righties are faggots, Hitler's an asshole, diversity is our strength - deal with it, they get what they deserve. Because they are drawing a line in the virtual sand, then daring someone to cross it. Much like the trolls we've had here on Poal.

This is just your own value judgement - people who you think are genuine become 'trolls' on the sites where the people you like aren't welcome, and vice versa. I don't care much about reddit - what it does is irrelevant to censorship on voat.

No the trolls I was referring to on poal were the ones who would spam the front page, every post, with "smallpond sucks dicks", "PMYB2 is a tranny", over and over etc. when most users were sleeping.

My reply was general in nature and you shifted it specific to voat. I attempted to bring it back to general by citing examples of real, hardcore censorship.

I also was talking about admin level censorship like shadow bans and banning whole subverses, which does not happen on voat.

If you want to believe that voat is practicing hardcore censorship, by all means do so. Obviously, nothing I can type here will change that view.

On sites like reddit, one must not only contend with libtard dogpiles ("censorship via popularity" ala downvoting) but with mods attacking as well...a double whammy.

Whether "reddit does it better" is irrelevant - Voat censors unpopular users.

Ahhh, so far as I can tell, I never said "reddit does it better" nor did anyone else in this thread, so cannot respond to that, other than to say, yes...reddit is far more into censorship than any other place (raddle, saidit, etc.), I know of....especially if you broaden the definition by including both libtard dogpiling by the users, and admin/mod backstabbing. Now if you want to limit the definition to just dogpiling, then 8ch.net can probably compete, as they rip into libtards with the same gusto that libtards do to conservatives on reddit.
