If the answer is no, then "sick" is being used as an excuse. There is some other factor making me not want to go to work. If the answer is yes, "sick" is being used as an independent reason for not wanting to go to work.

If you're sick you should stay home so you don't get others sick. That you didn't want to go anyway is just a convenient coincidence.
